Laura Bankston's Daily Tip:  6/10/04

Today's Topic:  Humor

Going to Sleep With Your Shoes On

My kids love jokes - don't yours?  They are still in the phase where they try to make them up themselves....

However, today they heard a new one and had to try it on me immediately!

So, here it is:

What always goes to sleep with it's shoes on?

Just so you can take a second to guess the answer without seeing it, you'll find the punch line at the bottom :-).  I hate to have the ending spoiled before I even get a chance to try to guess.

Of course, my brain is pretty fried today as I got up at 5 a.m. to get some work done before the kiddos got up.

But, after my boys told me the joke - and yes, each of them had to tell me separately - and, yes, I did laugh each time too - I started to think about why they love telling jokes so much.

I think it's a combination of several things, but here's a few off the :

1.  Just loving to have fun and enjoying life

2.  The creativity of trying to come up with something funny

3.  The pleasure of making someone else laugh

And when I think about it, I feel kinda bad for the times that happened like yesterday:

"Mom, wanna hear a joke?"

"No, honey, not right now, I don't have time."

Eeewww.  I cringe.  How could I not have 5 seconds to listen to a joke and laugh and make my kids day and boost his self-esteem?  That's the most important five seconds of the day.

And thus, why this page for today is up later than usual.  We told some jokes, cooked a little, and did a craft.

Do you know how much fun made up jokes, some typewriter paper, and some eggs could be?  Try it and find out.  And if you need some help with the cooking side, click here.

Sincerely,

Laura Bankston

P.S. Kids like jokes so much because of the creativity involved in making them up - the same type of creativity they enjoy using when they cook.  Start supplying the fuel for that creative juice by cooking with your kids now!

P.P.S.  Remember the joke at the top?  Well, the punch line is: "A horse, of course!"  Tell it to your kids - they'll giggle themselves to pieces!

P.P.S.  Have your kids send in some jokes, and I'll post them on this homepage for them to see and enjoy!
